Disney Channel Orders Second Season of ‘Amphibia’ Ahead of the Series Premiere on June 17

Disney Channel has ordered a second season of “Amphibia,” a frog-out-of-water animated comedy series, ahead of its debut on MONDAY, JUNE 17 (10:00-10:30 a.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. Leaping into the fantastical world of “Amphibia,” the series chronicles the adventures of independent and fearless teen Anne Boonchuy (voiced by Brenda Song) after she is magically transported to a rural marshland full of frog people and meets the excitable young frog Sprig Plantar and his family. Created and executive produced by Annie Award-winner Matt Braly (“Gravity Falls”), the series is inspired by his heritage, family and childhood trips to Bangkok, Thailand.

In making the announcement, Meredith Roberts, senior vice president, Animation Strategy, Disney Channels, said, “Matt and his team have created an imaginative new world in ‘Amphibia,’ with multifaceted, relatable lead characters who throughout the series will experience transformational journeys. We are excited to introduce these new characters as part of our Disney Channel animation line up and can’t wait for viewers to follow along on their adventures.”

Starring alongside Song in “Amphibia” is Justin Felbinger (Disney Junior’s “Miles From Tomorrowland”) as Sprig Plantar, who forges a once-in-a-lifetime friendship with Anne; Amanda Leighton (“This Is Us”) as unpredictable pollywog (aka tadpole) Polly Plantar, the youngest member of the Plantar family; and Disney Legend Bill Farmer (the voice of Goofy) as overprotective and traditional grandfather Hop Pop.

The guest voice cast includes Tony Hale (“Veep”) as mysterious salesman Apothecary Gary; Chris Sullivan (“This Is Us”) as southern tusked frog Gunther, who lives on the outskirts of Wartwood, and bed and breakfast owner Teddy; Stephen Root (“Barry”) as Wartwood’s Mayor Toadstool; Jack McBrayer (“30 Rock”) as Mayor Toadstool’s assistant, Toadie; Kristen Johnston and Matt Jones (both from “Mom”) as prison guards Braddock and Percy; Olympic figure skaters Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir as celebrity talent show judges; Diedrich Bader (“American Housewife”) as famous bugball player, Frog Jordan; Kevin McDonald (“Lilo & Stitch”) as restaurant critic Mr. Duckweed; James Patrick Stuart (“General Hospital”) as local town vagrant One-Eyed Wally; and YouTube sensation Anna Akana as Anne’s best friend from back home, Sasha.

“Amphibia” debuts with new episodes daily beginning Monday, June 17, through Thursday, June 20. Following the premiere week, the series will air daily throughout the summer. A series of shorts, “Teen Girl in a Frog World,” will begin rolling out in August on Disney Channel YouTube. Coinciding with the series premiere, the DisneyNOW app will also unveil an immersive role-playing game “Amphibia: Locust Pocus,” where players go on quests to help Anne and Sprig fix the damage in Wartwood caused by the locusts. “Amphibia” is a production of Disney Television Animation and carries a TV-Y7 parental guideline.

‘Just Roll With It,’ a Series for Kids and Families, Premieres Friday, June 14, on Disney Channel

Breaking through the pack, the ambitious new series “Just Roll With It” blends improvisational comedy with a family sitcom to seize an audacious opportunity that allows the studio audience to vote on the direction of key scenes, throughout the filming, while the actors are backstage. When the actors return to the stage, they have no idea what’s coming at them. A feat of planning and physical production each episode, the comedy series was created and is executive produced by Adam Small and Trevor Moore (Disney’s “Walk the Prank”) with a production crew led by Skot Bright (Disney’s “Walk the Prank”). “Just Roll With It” will be previewed FRIDAY, JUNE 14 (9:45-10:15 p.m. EDT/PDT), before its official premiere WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19 (8:00-8:30 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW.

Two adult actors who intuitively know what’s funny to kids—Tobie Windham (Disney’s “Walk the Prank”) and Suzi Barrett (Upright Citizens Brigade comedy group, Disney’s “Kirby Buckets”)—play fun-loving newlyweds Byron and Rachel. Byron is an on-air radio personality on BEATZ 101 and Rachel is a decorated military veteran who now produces his daily show in their hometown of Akron, Ohio. Talented young actors Ramon Reed (Disney’s “The Lion King” on Broadway) and Kaylin Hayman (“One Day at a Time”) play preteen stepsiblings Owen Blatt and Blair Bennett, polar opposites who must now somehow learn to be harmonious siblings.

At unpredictable intervals unknown to the cast or audience, the scripted action is suddenly interrupted by the sound of a foghorn. The actors are sequestered backstage while the studio audience uses electronic voting devices at their seats to select which of the three comedic scenarios they would like to see take place next. After votes are cast, the crew quickly resets and the actors return to the stage to continue the unscripted scene, improvising throughout it.

Kory Lunsford, vice president, Original Programming, Disney Channel, said, “Our talented executive producers, Trevor and Adam, have once again delivered a not-to-be-missed comedy. With this series, they have elevated the convention of a traditional sitcom by adding the keep-you-on-your-toes element of improvisation. The cast and crew literally have to ‘just roll with it’ and it all makes for a uniquely entertaining experience for the live studio audience and viewers at home.”

The series is produced by Kenwood TV Productions, Inc., and is filmed in Los Angeles. It carries a TV-G parental guideline.

Disney Channel’s Hit Series ‘Andi Mack’ Airs Final Episodes Beginning Friday, June 21

“Andi Mack,” a series hailed for inspiring social change, returns with its final episodes every Friday beginning JUNE 21 through JULY 26 (8:00-8:30 p.m. EDT/PDT) on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. Two episodes will be presented on Friday, June 21.

Creator and executive producer Terri Minsky said, “’Andi Mack’ was a labor of love for a room of impassioned, inventive writers, a talented and dedicated crew, and an extraordinary, miraculous cast who inspired us all. We had the honor of breaking a lot of new ground for Disney Channel. We were its first serialized show, its first series centered around an Asian American family, and its first to feature an LGBTQ character who spoke the words ‘I’m gay.’ But the best part of making ‘Andi Mack’ was our audience, who let us know we mattered to them. The series finale is for them.”

Gary Marsh, president, Disney Channel, said, “Three years ago, we challenged Terri Minsky to create a new series that expanded and broadened the Disney Channel brand. And so was born ‘Andi Mack.’ We are forever grateful to Terri, her talented team and the outstanding cast, led by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, for delivering a meaningful and satisfying conclusion to three wonderful seasons of this brilliant series.”

Year to-date, “Andi Mack” is Disney Channel’s most-watched series overall and its highest-rated among Kids 6-14. It is also the recipient of a Television Academy Honor, a GLAAD Media Award, a U.S. Asia Institute honor, the Common Sense Media Seal for Quality Family Programming and a Peabody Award nomination.

“Andi Mack” stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as the title character, Lilan Bowden as Rebecca “Bex” Mack, Lauren Tom as Celia Mack, Joshua Rush as Cyrus Goodman, Sofia Wylie as Buffy Driscoll, Asher Angel as Jonah Beck and Trent Garrett as Bowie.

“Andi Mack” was created and is executive produced by Terri Minsky (“Lizzie McGuire”) and also executive produced by Michelle Manning (“The Breakfast Club,” Disney Channel Original Movies “Adventures in Babysitting” and “Teen Beach 2”). Phil Baker (Disney Channel’s “Good Luck Charlie”) is co-executive producer.

The series is produced by Horizon Productions, filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah, and carries a TV-G parental guideline.
