Limited-Time Celebrations Planned for the 90th Anniversary of Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse is preparing to celebrate his 90th birthday with a huge celebration which will span across the globe with a series of events at all Disney Parks sites around the world, including the previously announced World’s Biggest Mouse Party – a limited-time, global celebration of Mickey and Minnie – as well as ‘Mickey: The True Original Exhibition’ in New York City.

Take a look at all of the celebrations planned below:

  • Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will celebrate Mickey’s birthday from November 16-18 with special merchandise and food & beverage items as well as the chance for guests to celebrate at Magic Kingdom Park during the “Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party, sing “Happy Birthday” along with the Dapper Dans on Main Street, U.S.A., and join in a special birthday dance party at Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland. Then in 2019, Walt Disney World will continue celebrating when World’s Biggest Mouse Party comes to the resort.
  • Disneyland Resort in California will host a celebration cavalcade for Mickey Mouse on November 18, featuring some of his special friends and the Disneyland Band, starting at “it’s a small world” and pausing for a special moment at Sleeping Beauty Castle before continuing down Main Street, U.S.A., to Town Square. The party continues when World’s Biggest Mouse Party begins at Disneyland Resort in 2019.
  • Disney Cruise Line will join the celebration when World’s Biggest Mouse Party takes to the seas in 2019.
  • Shanghai Disney Resort will be the first to kick off World’s Biggest Mouse Party with a brand-new Mickey-themed float at the opening ceremony of the Shanghai Tourism Festival on September 15 to commemorate the Shanghai launch of World’s Biggest Mouse Party. At Shanghai Disneyland, a giant birthday card will be installed next to “Storytellers” statue, featuring birthday wishes from Mickey’s pals. From November 16-18, guests will enjoy themed food and merchandise offerings as well as the opportunity to sing “Happy Birthday” to Mickey just before the nighttime spectacular show each evening, all culminating with a special nighttime birthday spectacular at Enchanted Storybook Castle on November 18.
  • Hong Kong Disneyland will begin its World’s Biggest Mouse Party activations on Mickey’s birthday, November 18, with commemorative park tickets, special food & beverage and merchandise, a hotel room overlay and “We Love Mickey” projection show through February 2019. And Hong Kong Disneyland guests will receive special birthday stickers, available only on November 18.
  • Tokyo Disney Resort will join the celebration this fall with special decorations and merchandise.
Disneyland Paris will celebrate the World’s Biggest Mouse Party this fall and into winter with new holiday season entertainment and special surprises.

“Mickey: The True Original Exhibition,” an interactive art exhibit, will open in New York from November 8, 2018 – February 10, 2019. This immersive, pop-up art exhibition is inspired by Mickey’s status as a ‘true original’ and his global impact on popular culture and art. From his beginning in black and white in Steamboat Willie to the technicolor world of more than 100 cartoon shorts, exhibition guests will step into an unforgettable journey of Mickey moments reimagined.

How will you celebrate Mickey’s birthday?

A Monstrously Crazy Halloween at Disneyland Paris Celebrating 90 Years of Fun With Mickey

To celebrate 90 years of Mickey, Disneyland Paris is organising a huge birthday bash with a very special programme. The kick-off whistle for this “Mickey 90 Mouse Party” will be blown on 1st October, with a new Halloween season that will put the spotlight on the most famous mouse in the history of animation.

This year, Halloween promises to be a wickedly wonderful party and will also celebrate Mickey himself. He will steal the show with a brand new float designed especially for him, in the mini Halloween parade. A new attraction called “Mickey and his PhilharMagic Orchestra” will make its appearance at Discoveryland. Lastly, there’s no Halloween without the “Disney Villains”. Get ready to shiver with some unparalleled encounters and a spectacular show… Don’t wait any longer to check out the programme:

Mickey’s Halloween Cavalcade

It is the most eagerly awaited parade of the season. Mickey’s Halloween Cavalcade is finally back with a bespoke addition: a brand new float called “Mickey’s Illusion Manor”. Why this name? Because it will celebrate 90 years of imagination in the most mischievous of ways, with apparitions and disappearances… Yes, Mickey can’t wait to play some tricks on you! What’s more, he’ll have help from some strange zombies and the three pranksters Huey, Dewey, and Louie, Scrooge’s nephews. No reason to panic though, as Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Chip and Dale, the Three Little Pigs, and many others will parade in their own floats, which will all exude cheerfulness and autumn colours.

New attraction: “Mickey and his PhilharMagic Orchestra”*

The “Mickey 90 Mouse Party” will mark the arrival, on 1st October 2018, of a brand new attraction in Europe: “Mickey and his PhilharMagic Orchestra”. Get ready to enjoy a new 4D experience at the Discoveryland Theatre. Once seated, you will find Mickey and Donald on the big screen. They will cast you into the very heart of some of the greatest Disney classics such as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King, with new misadventures caused by the out-of-control Donald Duck. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have fun with Disney’s most popular songs and to celebrate 90 years of Mickey in style.

*The attraction “Mickey and his PhilharMagic Orchestra” will remain open after the Halloween season

Face to face with the Disney Villains

Halloween is also THE season of all possibilities, especially for those who are dying to mingle with the most famous Disney Villains! The terrifying Maleficent will cast a spell to transform the courtyard of Sleeping Beauty Castle into a huge briar bush. The briar bush will take the shape of her ominous dragon… The most daring will be able to come meet her to take a photo together or simply enjoy a diabolical chat.

Many Disney Villains invite you to their show “It’s Good to be Bad with the Disney Villains!” at the Castle Theatre. You will see the Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cruella (101 Dalmatians), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland), Jafar (Aladdin), Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), Dr Facilier (The Princess and the Frog), but also Cinderella’s stepsisters and stepmother, Drizella, Anastasia, and Lady Tremaine. An intruder will hide within the show. The intruder in question is Donald, who will dress up like Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty) so that he can party with the Disney Villains.

Good news – the Disney Villains you will see on stage will certainly be dying to meet you. They will come up to you after the finale and will take malicious delight in posing for photos next to you. As you can see, it will be THE event not to miss.

Even more encounters with Halloween stars

While the Disney Villains are preparing to invade Disneyland Park to celebrate their favourite season, they will not be the only ones! Minnie, Stitch, Goofy, José Carioca and Panchito Pistoles (Donald’s partners in crime in the film The Three Caballeros) or even the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland promise new unforgettable encounters. A word of advice: don’t forget to grab the programme and map at the entrance to the Disney Parks to make sure you don’t miss anything.

In terms of decorations, every effort will be made to help you soak in several monstrously crazy and colourful atmospheres! Ghosts and pumpkins will invade Main Street, U.S.A., as well as Frontierland. Colourful, tall sculptures will also have their place at the heart of the festivities. And throughout the season, at the Fuente del Oro restaurant, you will be able to encounter the puppet of Miguel, the star of the Disney/Pixar film Coco.

The Halloween season takes place from 1st October to 4th November 2018. The “Mickey 90 Mouse Party” will be followed by a new Christmas season, full of surprises. More information to come on news.disneylandparis.com.

Disney Launches Worldwide Celebration Honoring 90 Years of Mickey Mouse

It was all started by a mouse, Walt Disney famously said, and 90 years after his big-screen debut in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928, The Walt Disney Company is honoring its global ambassador, Mickey Mouse, with a worldwide celebration that will continue through 2018 and beyond. The cross-company festivities include an exclusive fashion show, a new television special, a celebration at Disney parks and resorts and much more.

The party kicks off on March 7 with “The Happiest Show on Earth”—a runway fashion event featuring a Mickey-inspired collection designed by couture brand Opening Ceremony founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. The show, which serves as Opening Ceremony’s Spring 2018 runway show, closes out fashion week celebrations around the world. Select items from the Mickey collaboration will be immediately available for sale following the runway show at shopDisney.com, OpeningCeremony.com and Opening Ceremony stores, while the remaining ready-to-wear looks will hit stores in November. The fashion show will also honor the iconic story of Minnie Mouse, who shares this milestone anniversary with Mickey and recently received her official star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Disney’s collaboration with Opening Ceremony launches “Mickey the True Original”—a global celebration of Mickey’s heritage, personality and status as a pop-culture icon. The campaign will come to life through fashion collaborations with other true original brands, as well as engaging content and events that embrace Mickey’s impact on the past, present and future.

The celebration continues across The Walt Disney Company, throughout 2018 and beyond:

  • This fall, ABC will air a star-studded celebration of Mickey in honor of his birthday, with special guests, musical performances and more.
  • Disney Channel will debut a fifth season of the Mickey Mouse animated shorts, taking the series total to more than 90 shorts, including a special seven-minute extended-length birthday episode that will air later this year.
  • Walt Disney Parks and Resorts around the world will celebrate Mickey’s 90th on November 18, marking the day with commemorative merchandise, photo locations and more.
  • Beginning in late 2018 and into 2019 the World’s Biggest Mouse Party, saluting Mickey and Minnie, will take place at Disney parks worldwide.
  • Disney On Ice will salute Mickey as the “True Original” host of Disney On Ice since its inception in 1981 by creating Mickey’s 90th pre-shows for productions touring the United States, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
  • Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Special Celebration, a new production showcasing Mickey Mouse’s memories throughout the years, will launch in Japan in July 2018 and continue touring throughout the Asia-Pacific region until August 2019.
  • In France, 38 design and art schools will take part in “Mickey Is Art,” a unique contest in which students will craft works of Mickey, inspired by their favorite artistic movement. The winning designs will be displayed this summer in 12 major train stations in France and for sale this September at Galerie Glénat in Paris.
  • Disney store will continue to celebrate milestone moments for Mickey Mouse with the Mickey Mouse Memories Collection (launched January 2018), a monthly, limited-release series of 12 collectible plush, mugs and cloisonné pins inspired by Mickey’s most memorable movie roles.
  • Disney Publishing Worldwide will introduce more than 30 titles globally as part of Mickey’s 90th, including books, arts & crafts and comics.

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is also celebrating Mickey’s 90th throughout 2018. D23 and the Walt Disney Archives have partnered with Walt Disney Animation Studios to commission legendary Disney animator Mark Henn (Mickey’s Christmas Carol, the upcoming Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2) to paint Mickey’s official 90th birthday portrait, which will debut on the cover of the fall issue of D23’s quarterly publication Disney twenty-three. In November, D23 will present Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, a two-day event at Walt Disney World Resort featuring panels, presentations and fun-filled entertainment. Additionally, this year’s annual gift for D23 Gold Members is an exclusive box set of 23 special Mickey Mouse mementos—authentic reproductions of such treasured keepsakes as pages from the script of Steamboat Willie and a miniature animation cel from Parade of the Award Nominees (1932).

Fans are encouraged to join the conversation on social media throughout the celebration using the hashtag #Mickey90.
