New and Returning Acts Will Perform During Epcot International Festival of the Arts

The Epcot International Festival of the Arts will return in January 2018 for its second year.  The event will take place January 12 – February 19, 2018, and new this year, the festival will expand to seven days of the week instead of just on the weekends. During this event, guests can celebrate art, food, and entertainment, including live entertainment throughout World Showcase.

Matboukha Groove – With a name that means “cooked,” this returning act spices up the promenade with a unique and entertaining fusion of World Music styles. Catch Matboukha Groove’s Epcot encore at the Morocco stage Jan. 1- July 1, 2018.

Groovin’ Alps – Grab your lederhosen and get ready to dance along with this high-energy German percussion band. This brand-new group brings the sounds of the mountains to Epcot with Bavarian folk tunes played on items found on a dairy farm. Find Groovin’ Alps in Germany from Jan. 10 – March 27, 2018.

Bodh’aktan – Returning to once again rock Canada’s Mill Stage with the fun of kilts, jeans, sweat and beards, Bodh’aktan mixes Quebecois, folk, and polka to make fantastic rock and dance music. Join the party Jan. 12-28, 2018!

Cast Announced for Live-Action Adaptation of ‘Artemis Fowl’

Walt Disney Studios has announced the initial casting for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Artemis Fowl, which will be directed by Kenneth Branagh and produced by Branagh and Judy Hofflund.

Ferdia Shaw as Artemis

Ferdia Shaw was chosen out of 1200 candidates for this part, and will make his onscreen debut in the role. For those who aren’t familiar with the books, the character of Artemis Fowl is a 12-year-old genius who finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

Josh Gad as Mulch Diggums

Mulch Diggums is a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies.

Judi Dench as Commander Root

Commander Root is the leader of the fairy police force.

Lara McDonnell as Captain Holly Short

Captain Holly Short is the elf hero.

Nonso Anozie as Butler

Butler is Artemis Fowl’s bodyguard.

The live-action adaptation of Artemis Fowl is based on the bestselling book series by Eoin Colfer, and will hit theaters on August 9, 2019!

Matthew McConaughey Visits Walt Disney World Resort

After filming a movie in Florida the past few months, Matthew McConaughey visited Walt Disney World.  The actor enjoyed spending time with his family at the resort during the holiday season and took a group photo with Mickey Mouse along with Disney’s iconic Toy Soldiers.

Treasures From the Disney Vault Airs Tonight on TCM

Treasures from the Disney Vault returns to the Turner Classic Movies Channel on December 20, 2017.  The special evening will once again be hosted by film critic Leonard Maltin and will showcase a wide array of Disney classics including animated shorts, feature films, live-action movies, documentaries, nature films, and made-for-television movies.

Here’s the complete programming schedule for Wednesday, December 20:

8pm – Brave Little Tailor (1938) Voices of  Walt Disney, Marcellite Garner, Eddie Holden.  When a giant threatens the land, the city folk mistake Mickey’s boast of killing seven flies with one blow to be giants. He is then forced to fight the giant for real.

8:15pm – The Story of Robin Hood and His Merry Men (1952)  Starring: Richard Todd, Joan Rice, Peter Finch.  Young Robin Hood, in love with Maid Marian, enters an archery contest with his father at the King’s palace. On the way home his father is murdered by hench men of Prince John. Robin takes up the life of an outlaw, gathering together his band of merry men with him in Sherwood Forest, to avenge his father’s death and to help the people of the land that Prince John are over taxing.

9:45pm – The Sign of Zorro (1960) Starring:  Guy Williams, Henry Calvin, Gene Sheldon.  In this film, edited from eight episodes of Disney’s hit TV series, Don Diego returns home to find his town under the heel of a cruel dictator, Capitan Monastario. Diego dons the mask of Zorro to fight the evil commandant’s tyranny, and, with the help of his mute servant Bernardo, free the pueblo from his oppression.

11:30pm – Toby Tyler (1960) Starring: Kevin Corcoran, Henry Calvin, Gene Sheldon.  Kevin Corcoran stars as the lovable, determined runaway who believes his uncle and aunt no longer want him, and life under the Big Top will put things right. Along the way he meets Ben, Mr. Tupper, and the mischievous Mr. Stubbs — a playful chimpanzee! Together they fall into hilarious jams and scams more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

1:15am – Tricks of Our Trade (1957) Starring: Jack Boyd, Marc Davis, Walt Disney.  Walt Disney gives a behind-the-scenes look at the technical improvements in animation.

2:15am – Pete’s Dragon (1977) Starring: Sean Marshall, Helen Reddy, Jim Dale.  An orphan boy and his magical dragon come to town with his abusive adoptive parents in pursuit.

4:30am – Fuzzbucket (1986) Starring:  Chris Hebert, Phil Fondacaro, Joe Regalbuto .  In the vein of “Harvey”, an invisible creature befriends a 12 year old boy. Of course, no one else can see him nor believes in him.
