Walt Disney World Resort to Host Kickoff of ABC’s ‘American Idol’ Nationwide Bus Tour Auditions

Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is set to host the kickoff of the nationwide bus tour for auditions for the second season of ABC’s “American Idol.” The beloved competition series’ search for the next singing sensation begins Aug. 25 when the Idol Bus embarks on its more than 20-city tour across America, offering hopefuls the chance to audition for a shot at superstardom.

The journey begins at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort, a 220-acre facility that annually hosts more than 100 events ranging from youth sports to professional sports. During singing auditions at the complex, ABC’s “American Idol” Season 1 winner Maddie Poppe, runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson and finalist Catie Turner will make special appearances.

Early arrival is encouraged. Parking will be available as early as 4 a.m., but not before. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with auditions starting at 9 a.m. Overnight camping will not be permitted. Celebrity judges will not be on site.

All singers must be at least 15 years old to audition. Pre-registration is encouraged. Those auditioning can bring one guest to accompany them and the guest must be over 5 years old.

“American Idol” bus tour auditions begin on the same day in San Diego, California, as a second Idol Bus joins the nationwide quest for talent. In addition to appearing in person, hopefuls can submit audition videos online via www.americanidol.com/auditions or by showing off their talents via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Musical.ly using the hashtag #TheNextIdol.

“American Idol” returns for its second season on ABC (2018-2019) with all-star judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Emmy®-winning producer Ryan Seacrest will also return as host.

Special Olympics USA Games Coming to Orlando in 2022

Today Special Olympics North America and Special Olympics Florida signed documents to bring the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games to Orlando, held June 5-10, 2022.

According to Disney, the Special Olympics serves as the world’s largest sports organization empowering people with intellectual disabilities, and the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Florida, as well as mark the largest humanitarian event in Florida’s history.

The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games will be comprised of 15 Olympic-style team and individual sports, as well as five potential demonstration sports, and is expected to bring together more than 4,000 elite athletes, 10,000 volunteers, 1,500 coaches and 75,000 fans from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex hosts several other Special Olympics Florida events, including the State Summer Games, the State Fall Classic and the State Golf Championships.

NFL Pro Bowl Week Comes to Walt Disney World Resort This Week

NFL Pro Bowl kicks off this week at  ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.  Many of the events are free and open to the public, including the team practices.

Here is all the information on these events from Disney:

The AFC and NFC teams are training Wednesday starting at 10:30 and Thursday-Saturday starting at 11:30 am.

Fans can also cheer on their favorite players from the AFC and NFC as they go against each other in unique competitions at the 2018 Pro Bowl Skills Showdown. Tickets are limited – register here.

In addition to watching the players practice, fans can test their own football skills the NFL Pro Bowl Experience – a free, interactive fan zone with fun activities for the whole family. Open daily at 10 a.m. starting Wednesday, the NFL Pro Bowl Experience gives fans the opportunity to get even closer to the action with new football-related activities, immersive exhibits and sponsor activations.

After watching the pros, fans can get a look at the future at one of the NFL’s premier youth football events – the NFL FLAG Championships on Friday and Saturday. Fans interested in exclusive access to NFL-themed games and activities, youth football clinics and more, must register for the NFL Fan Mobile Pass.

The Pro Bowl fun extends beyond the field, too. There’s a Pro Bowl Fun Run Series at the Track & Field Complex at ESPN Wide World of Sports on Saturday at 1 pm. The event features distances for runners of all ages and abilities, and participants will receive a finisher medallion, a race bib and a commemorative item, plus post-race refreshments. Runners can also expect to see some of their favorite Disney characters, Pro Bowl cheerleaders and mascots along the way. Spots are still available here.

With complimentary parking at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, fans can partake in all of the exciting Pro Bowl action all week long! Fans can also head over to Disney Springs to catch the NFL Pro Bowl All-Star Pep Rally starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 27. The Pep Rally will feature special entertainment, games, NFL Cheerleaders and Mascot appearances, and more!

New Arena Opens at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World

On January 12, 2018, Disney  officially opened the doors to its new multi-purpose arena at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort, further expanding the 220-acre sports venue that is widely regarded as the leading facility for youth sports in America.

ESPN Wide World of Sports executives and other key stakeholders celebrated the occasion with a special dedication ceremony featuring a giant ribbon-cutting, plus a cheerleading routine with Minnie Mouse in her new cheerleader uniform.

Looking forward, the 300,000-square-foot venue, named The Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, will host a variety of sports for girls and boys, such as basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and, in particular, cheerleading and dance, starting with the prestigious UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship which took place over the weekend. The 8,000-seat arena is one of the largest in the country designed specifically for cheer and dance events.

Atlanta Braves Spring Training Schedule Announced

The Atlanta Braves have announced their spring training schedule at Walt Disney World Resort.  The braves will play 18 games at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex beginning February 26, 2018.
